Uses
i)                    It is applied to the skin as a mild astringent
ii)                   It is applied to the skin as a soothing and protective application in eczema .
iii)                 It is used as protective to skin .
iv)                 It is used in sunscreens
v)                  It is used in the treatment of skin ulceration and in other skin problems .
vi)                 It is a mild antiseptic and astringent .
vii)               Mixture of zinc oxide and strong solution of zinc chloride is converted into an oxychloride which sets into hard mass . This mass is used in some dental cements .
viii)              Mixed with clove oil  or eugenol , zinc-oxide is used as a temporary dental filling  .
ix)                 The antimicrobial – astringent action is due to the release of a small amount of zinc ins due to hydrolysis in the acidic moisture on the skin
x)                  It is an ingredient of calamine , zinc gelatin , zinc oxide ointment and zinc oxide paste .

Side Effect
Freshly formed fumes , as from welding , may cause metal fume fever with chills , fever , tightness in chest , cough and leucocytes

It is stored in well closed container.
