Uses
i)                    2.5% of sodium hydroxide is used as cuticle solvent and to remove warts .
ii)                   An escharotic preparation of sodium hydroxide and calcium oxide , known as London-paste  is used to adjust the pH of the solution .
iii)                 Sodium hydroxide solutions are used to neutralize acids and make sodium salts to treat cellulose in viscose raycon  and cellophane .
iv)                 Sodium hydroxide solutions hydrolyze fats and form soaps , they precipitate alkaloids and most metals .

Side Effect
i)                    Ingestion of sodium hydroxide causes vomiting , prostration and collapse .
ii)                    It is corrosive to all tissues .

It is stored in hard glass bottles .
