Incompatible with bicarbonates , soluble iodides , gallic acid , calomel , salicyclic acid , tannin and sulphur .

Uses
i)                    It is used as antacid
ii)                   It is used as mild astringent .
iii)                 It is used as dusting powder .
iv)                 It is used as antiseptic .
v)                  It is used as protective and adsorbent .
vi)                 It is used in form of bismuth subnitrate and iodoform paste as a wound dressing and a topical protective in lotions and ointments .

Side Effect
There is a risk of the nitrate being reduced to nitrite with the development of methaemoglobinaemia .

It is kept in well closed containers and protected from light
