Chloride ion precipated with silver , mercurous mercury and lead salts and oxidized by oxidizing agent , chlorine is liberated .

Uses

Hcl is an escharotic

i)                    It is used  as pharmaceutical agent
ii)                   It is used as acidifying agent .
iii)                 It is used for the treatment of Achlorhydria in dilute form .
iv)                 It is given in the management of metabolic alkalosis .

Side Effect
i)                    Concentrated solution cause severe burns , permanent visual damage may occur .
ii)                   Dermatitis and photosensitization may occur .
iii)                 Inhalation  may cause cough , choking , inflammation and ulceration of respiratory tract

Storage
 It should be kept in a stoppered container of glass or other inert material and stored at a temperature not exceeding 30۟ c
